Hi,

I just changed a laptop from a domain to a workgroup.
Once completed a message said I had to reboot. After
restarting, when asked to login, it says user name and
password is wrong.

I don't get any option anymore to put in a domain or
workgroup?

What is the correct syntax to put in the computer name,
workgroup and user name, in the User Name field? Or is
there something else I can do here. I don't know the
administrator password.

I'm hoping I don't have to reinstall windows!!

Thanks,

ng

You need to have known a LOCAL username/password.

I make it a habit when removing a PC or laptop from a domain to change a
local user password to one I know right before I remove it from the domain.

If you do not know a local username/password.....

When you go to your network drive, and it asks for a username and password,
try putting in domain\username and then your password. I log on to my
machine locally, explore to a network drive, and do that when it asks me to
login. Make sure you use a backslash, not a forward slash.

When you changed the computer from domain to workgroup, the computer doesn't
know any other other identities than the administrator, becouse all the user
information in domains are on the primary server, which doesn't exist in a
workgroup. As you don't know the admin password, you're done for and can
only install Windows again....

(There are password cracking tools around, but I have bo personal experience
with them.....)
