Change monitor display

B

Brenda Moore

I can't seem to change my monitor display- for some
unknown reason it is currently set at:

Colors: 16 colors

Display area: 640 x 480 pixels

and there are no other options... only 16 colors.

The computer used to be just fine and then I let my neice
use it and for some reason, I can't change it back.

Is there something I can do short of reinstalling the
software? I have just moved and all my computer software
is in transit and won't be here until the end of August.

Help!!

Make sure that your Video card is the correct one that you
are using. Sometimes after a crash, this will reset to
the default and will not give you many options like colors
and such. Right-click anywhere on the desktop, select
properties --> click the Settings tab --> and underneath
where it says Display should tell you what monitor running
on which video card. Veryify that information is correct.

If it is not, click the advanced tab in the lower left-
hand corner of that screen. Click on either the display
tab or the monitor tab to adjust your driver.

I agree with Michael. And you might also want to check what your video driver is.

I had this with some Compaqs that Win2000 needed some newer drivers for the video card before it would move off 16 colors.

Hey I have that same problem but when I click on
the "monitor" tab, I see that under monitor type it
says "default monitor". I don't know what to do and I
would really appreciate it if you could help me too!

I have found that 'monitor' doesn't mean much, except where you need some cool and nifty monitor-specific features; alarm clock, built-in fridge, can-holders, etc. :) I've been running for months with 'TV selected on my laptop until I got around and changed it to 'laptop LCD' or something like that.

But the 'video driver' makes a BIG difference. Make sure the video driver matches you video card.
