Change Icon

Have just set up a new computer with Windows XP Media Edition. I have added
a few web site shortcuts to my desktop and now I want to change the icon.
When I right click the desktop item, select properties, and select change
icon, I only have 3 or 4 icons from which to choose. Are there more icons
somewhere else on the system that I just haven't found yet?

My old machine was Windows XP Professional, and I had an entire folder full
of icons from which to choose. Could I just copy that folder from the old
system to the new one?

Yes, C:\WINDOWS\system32\url.dll only contains 4 icons.
You can browse to .ico files or other .dll and .exe files that contain
icons
Yes, you can copy icons from another machine and put them where you
like, though I would not personally put them in the System32 folder.

Yes.

I have an Icons folder in My Documents just for the purpose of customizing
folders and shortcuts.

Open Favorites | Right click whatever item | Properties | Change Icon |
button | Browse button | Click: My Documents or wherever *.ico are stored |
Click whatever *.ico | Open button | OK | Apply | OK
Repeat as necessary.

Right click folder | Properties | Customize tab | Change Icon button |
Browse button | Navigate to where you have Icons stored. I.e. Somewhere
that you have saved icons, like C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\My
Documents or %userprofile%\My Documents\ICONS or where ever

From XP HELP:

No Icons Available
If you click Change Icon, and there are no icons available, use the
Browse button to find Shell32.dll:
1.. Right-click the shortcut you created, click Properties, and then click
Change Icon.
2.. Click Browse, type %systemroot%\system32\shell32.dll in the File name
box, click Open, click the icon you want to use, click OK, and then
click OK.

You can also Browse to C:\WINDOWS\system32\moricons.dll from the Change Icon
button.
