change email in contacts

I am trying to change an email address in contacts. When I change the
address and click off the field it goes back to the old address. Could there
posibly be a lock on this contact i do not know about?

What version of Outlook? Where are you making this change? What happens if
after you make the change you select Save and Close? Did you press the tab
button to move out of the field? How were these contact items created?
From Outlook? A Mobile Phone or PDA?
