Are there any ways to change PowerPoint default settings or to manage them
more efficiently?

Example - I find that I often animate text boxes as : Appear - by letter -
timing = 0.1 seconds. The only way I know to do this is by adding the
animation effect then changing the default settings manually each time. Is
there a better way?

Try selecting all the slides you want to apply an effect to in the slide
sorter, then apply the effect.

How this works exactly will depend on PPT version, so let us know which you're
