CES Announcements and MM2

The annual tradition of making significant announcements at the Consumer
Electronics Show (CES) continues... on Wednesday Bill Gates made the keynote
address to the attendees, Press Releases have been streaming out, and some
websites are overloaded with traffic.

.... so what's in it for users of Movie Maker 2? - here's two things I see:

1... The first of a new boxed 2-disc set of movies is now available for
purchase. The movie is Coral Reef Adventure which was made for IMAX
Theatres. The first disc in the set isn't that newsworthy as it is a
standard DVD. But the second disc is a new WMV-HD disc (High Definition),
which has two copies of the movie in WMV format. The WMV files have over 6
times the resolution of the DVD version. And the movie is really great.

One copy is 1280x720 and runs smoothly on my laptop, which meets the
recommended minimum CPU of 2.4 GHz. The other copy is 1440x1080 and doesn't
run smoothly for me.... it needs the recommended 3.0 GHz CPU.

For Movie Maker 2 users, I studied the parameters of the 1280x720 file and
made a custom profile so I can take my widescreen holiday videos and produce
them at those settings... the only thing I had to compromise on was the
audio... MM2 is limited to 2 channel stereo and the disc has 5.1 sound.

I put a copy of my custom profile on the website and updated the Saving
Movies > Custom WMV Profiles page with some info and a link to it...

2... DVD players that support the WMV format are on the horizon for April...
I updated the CD Burning > HighMAT page of my website and included a few
links... The error message when clicking on the Apex link seems due to '...
the amount of traffic exceeds the Web site's configured capacity...'

Thanks for the update Papa!

........I wish there could have been some info on future plans/patches to the
existing MM2 to address alot of the stability problems that a lot of the
users seem to run into. Will keep fingers crossed though!

Yup, I understand Jeff. But that's not the kind of news that would come out
of CES. Maybe I'll get some insights when I visit Microsoft in a couple
weeks.
