cell select won't release...

When a cell is clicked in excel either in a new ss or an
existing ss the cell select funtion will not turn off.
After selecting a cell the cursor turns to the cross and
will not release the selection funtion even when the
cursor is moved off of the cell area. Consequently the
only way to exit excel is to end the task in task manager.
The user is running XP with office xp.
This does not happen in any other application...
thnx

I am experiencing the same problem and would like to
find out if there is a fix. Didn't see any replies to
the original email creating the thread. Was a fix ever
reported by MS or otherwise?

to see if anyone has a solution. So far have not found

I reported a similar problem on Feb. 7. Here's the
answer posted on Feb. 15:

You get this error when Excel is in 'Edit' Mode. (Try
pressing F2 and exit).

It is most probably a problem with the mouse drivers.
The user should try
updating or re-applying these and see if it fixes the
issue

Not sure what's happened here. The F2 key puts you in Edit mode. I was
only using the key to demonstrate that when Excel is in Edit mode you will
get the cannot quit message. The fact about the Mouse drivers still stands,
but the F2 key is not a fix, just a way to demonstrate the issue

I am having the same problem, with a brand-new PC. I am very annoyed by the suggestion that I need to reload mouse drivers. Anyone at Microsoft listening here?
