Any ideas
my sons laptop has got sound probs ,when he plays music of the comp (itunes)
no probs at all.
But in the cd-dvd drive cds and dvds the sound is low and terribly distorted
tried a number of discs all the same.
Acer -Aspire 3023WLMI
windows XP
DVD-RW Dual Double Layer
any help appreciated

Wouldn't itunes be using Media Player or something else as "player"?
So sounds like sound card is fine.
Now need to check integrity of "drive or "cds".
what cd/dvd drives do you have?

all media players play audio files off the hard drive ok ,but none play cds
or dvds from the drive without distorted sound.
DVD burner is :-
slimtype dual layer DVDRW SOSW-833S
cheers

That's what I said. iTines are playing from HDD with good sound. So that
rules out the Sound Card from being defective.
Now have to concentrate on the "CDs" or the "Dual player".
Multiple CDs therefore suggest that it's something to do with "DVD burner".
Check ribbon cable, sound cable, and possibly clean "player"
If available, try another "player".
Not familiar with dual layer, does that mean 2 drives?

dual layer 1 drive .
Just got reply from acer support ,they advise recovery and system restore

seems hard to believe since sound works fine from HDD.
Seems drastic.

Please let me know!!
