CDRW INSTALLED PC LOCKS UP

IBM CLONE, XP HOME 1 HD, 1 FLOPPY, 1 CDRW. cdrw stops responding, it
will not load/run any cd. I installed a new cdrw drive on IDE 2,
jumpered as Master. PC takes 5 minutes to boot, says new hardware
found once I get to desktop, PC/Mouse is frozen at this point. I
configured as a slave and cable with HD - reboot - same problem.
Checked the BIOS drive is reconized on IDE2 - Master. Any Idea's would
be appreciated. Thx Tek

Perhaps it's a problem with the IDE2 interface. Did you reuse the old IDE
cable when you installed the new drive? Try a new cable. Perhaps try a
different power connector? If that doesnt work try installing it as a slave
on IDE1?

I did configure as slave to IDE1 with HD - same problem, I did replace
the cable - same problem. Idea's ?

How long did you wait ?

Looks like its got a problem with the boot drive or the controller.

Post the SMART data for the boot drive using Everest.

Does the problem goe away if you do not have any CD drive in the
system?
