Hi, I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows XP Professional 2002 version. I'm
need to restore it, have the recovery disc for it. I've been attemping to
save all my documents & such on a CD. When I try to write the files to the
CD, it won't let me. The CD Wizard goes thru "writing to CD", etc. but then
the Wizard stops & it says there's an error in the writing process & gives me
the opition of:
1. Ejecting & trying another disc 2. Deleting the files. 3. Saving the
file to try again later. I've tried 4 brand new CD discs & it still isn't
working. I was able to save 2 files on one CD & then the same problem.
I got the lense cleaner & tried running it. It says afer the beep go to
track 4, but how do I do that, there's no tracts on my laptop.
I opened it with Windows Media Player, was that right. I let it run for
several minutes but nothing happened. I still can't get my files to load on a
disc. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!! Thanks!!

Couple of things to check 1st with Nero. Make sure you have the right option selected (Make Data Cd) Then make sure that you have the CD-ROM option selected not the DVD option.

are you trying to write files that are currently in use?
if you are.. try copying the file to a misc. folder then try to write these
files from this location.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. No, I'm trying to write files like "my documents",
puctures, etc. I need to use the recovery CD for my laptop & restore it but
need to save all my files first.

HI Peter, Thanks for your reply. I don't much about this, what is Nero.
Someone suggested a burning app, what is that? Where do i select the (make
data Cd) opition & the CD-ROM opition? I've burned files in the past but when
I try doing the same thing now it's just not working. Thanks again.

My bad. I have no idea where I saw Nero in your post. I thought I did. How are you trying to back up to the CD. Can you explain it step by step and which program are you using to back up

Did it ever work? When was the last time you used it? If it did work once
what has changed in the system since the last time you used it? You
indicated you want to restore the system - is it having problems? Malware
infections? Have you installed any 3rd party CD writing software such as
Nero or Roxio?

With a disc in the drive, open My Computer, right click the CD drive,
Properties. On the recording tab make sure the enable recording on this
drive is checked.

From Start | Run type in services.msc, click ok. In the right pane go down
to the IMAPI CD burning service. Make sure it's running and start is set to
automatic. Here are some links with info?

Are you trying to copy more data to a CD than it can hold? A typical CD-R
can only hold 700MB of data so ensure you are copying a total that is below
that amount.

Can you burn other data to a CD? Try burning a few small files and if your
burner is working.

Does another brand of blank CD-R media work? Some CD-R media is crap and
occasionally CD Burners do not like one bran or another so try a different
brand of disc.

Are you multi-tasking while trying to write? Don't run anything else while
writing.

Instead of using Windows built in CD Writing software try a third party
program. There are free programs that work very well. It sounds like you are
having problems with your system so instead of trying to install a program
like Nero try using this little stand alone program
http://www.silentnight2004.com/Micro20.exe Just download it and run it. You
can try burning a few files and see if this works. If it doesn't work then
your problem might be related to your CD Burner itself.
