Sorry about that..I am new to these forums..
After many to's and fro's it was discovered that there was a missing entry
in the registry called "shellfolder for CD Burning"..I was given a script
from a "good" machine and converted it to a .reg file and imported it into my
registry..details of that script are below.....

I guess you know how to import registry keys, but in case not, you need to
paste the above into Notepad or similar text editor, and save as a file with
.reg extension, and then launch the file (double or single click depending on
how you have set up Folder Options)
