i have a hp zd7010ea which will burn audio to disc but not data ( photo). i
just get the cd writing wizard failed mesage. imapi cd burning is set to auto
and i am using roxio. any tips would be fantasic as i've spent weeks trying
to sort it. i'm no expert by the way !
thanks

Try using a different type of CD-R made by a different company. Lower
quality medias can give you problems. Also try burning at a slower
rate. Like if your burner rights at 12x try burning as slow as 2x -
300kb/s .

i've tried different discs and also burning at the slowest possible speeds.no
luck though. ive tried different burning software and i always end up with
the same error

hi the error is
cd writing wizard has failed to complete task.
options are then to retry, delete files or save files to try again later. no
power errors.thanks

Might I suggest you peruse the post "Cannot do anything with the CD writing
wizard" a few posts above yours..it sorted out my similar problem.

Rather than directing him/her to a post that still may, or may not be a few

paste the solution.
I know I can't find the post you are referring to.

Sorry about that..I am new to these forums..

After many to's and fro's it was discovered that there was a missing entry
in the registry called "shellfolder for CD Burning"..I was given a script
from a "good" machine and converted it to a .reg file and imported it into my
registry..details of that script are below.....

This is the text of the .reg file exported from my good machine (between <
and >):

<Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{fbeb8a05-beee-4442-804e-409d6c4515e9}]
@="ShellFolder for CD Burning"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{fbeb8a05-beee-4442-804e-409d6c4515e9}\InProcServer32]
@=hex(2):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,6f,00,74,00,25,\
00,5c,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,5c,00,53,00,48,00,\
45,00,4c,00,4c,00,33,00,32,00,2e,00,64,00,6c,00,6c,00,00,00
"ThreadingModel"="Apartment"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{fbeb8a05-beee-4442-804e-409d6c4515e9}\MergedFolder]
"Attributes"="0x0"
"AttributeMask"="0xffffffff"
"Location"="@shell32.dll,-12589"
"ConflictOverlayIcon"=hex(2):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,\
6f,00,6f,00,74,00,25,00,5c,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,\
00,5c,00,53,00,48,00,45,00,4c,00,4c,00,33,00,32,00,2e,00,64,00,6c,00,6c,00,\
2c,00,2d,00,32,00,33,00,32,00,00,00>

I guess you know how to import registry keys, but in case not, you need to
paste the above into Notepad or similar text editor, and save as a file with
..reg extension, and then launch the file (double or single click depending on
how you have set up Folder Options)

Thanks to William George for this fix

I've been having the precise same problem with the CD writing wizard; it just
says it failed to complete and asks what I want to do with the files waiting
to be burned. I also have IMAPI set to Automatic, have tried slower write
speeds, different media, all to no avail. I tried your registry edit but must
have done something wrong; my message says "Cannot import C:\Documents and
Settings\Paula\My documents\CDburnFix.reg The specified file is not a
registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the
registry editor." Did I save it as the wrong file type? (All files)
