Amy

I attempt to replace my CD ROM with a CD Writer.

However, when I boot up the machine with the CD Writer
installed, the system cannot boot up. Is there any
suggestion ?

Thanks

Sounds like you didn't jumper the CD-RW properly. Check your documentation
carefully. Since you said you are replacing your CD-ROM, also, look at your
old CD-ROM to see how it was jumpered (either Master, Slave, or Cable
Select.) Make your new CD-RW the same as the old CD-ROM.

Please supply full details about the boot process, i.e. how
far it gets, and what messages you see. Do the BIOS boot
messages indicate that the CD burner was recognised?
Press the Pause key to suspend the boot process and
read the screen messages.
