I have to replace the CD-Writer in my HP Pavillion 7965. I am being asked if
this device is a slave or a master and I do not know how to find out. Does
anyone know or have any suggestions?

Take the old one out.
Look on the back.
There is a JUMPER SET labeled MA|SL|CS (Master, Slave or Cable Select).
Which one is jumpered?

Hi,

Chances are it was installed originally as the master on the secondary ide
controller. In most cases, you should use the same configuration.
