I have a HP Pavillion computor, about 4 years old. It had the ME system on it
when I purchased it. I have since had to wipe out my hard drive and start
over. I have XP Home on it and I bought word and have installed it also.
The new system does not recognize my CD writer and I have tried using the
old Pavillion recovery disks but they don't seem to work either. Is this a
lost cause? I know enough about computors to make me dangerous, so please
make it simple.

Did you have to update the bios before loading XP? I ask because a while
back I had to update the bios on an HP Pavilion XE735 before installing XP.
While XP may have loaded onto your system, there may be a problem with the
bios settings. Checkout your HP model number on www.hp.com and see if there
were any prep steps needed before installing XP.
Also, check in device manager to find out what brand/make of cd-writer is on
your system. I'm assuming It's HP branded, but you never know.

ya right now my computer is haveing the same problem posibly soon a recall
might have to be opened also if you fixed the problem tell me how you fixed it
