I am looking for a freeware CD Burner program that'll work
with a PlexWriter CD Burner.

I'm currently using CDburnerXP-Pro with mine.
Works ok although registers buffer errors in the XP Event Log but this
doesn't see to affect the burns.

What's the exact version of CDburnerXP-Pro that you're using?

using?

Thanks.

The computer I just bought used had no CD software.

Excuse me, I asked Hummingbird what version she/he was using since she
wasn't having a problem with it.

Here's what I posted to you in another thread 11th January:
"Have you tried v3.0.116 ...the latest I believe.
Still got a few quirks but it works on my XP-Pro-SP2."

v3.0.116.

Thank you. That's the version that comes up with an error and doesn't burn
Audio CDs. The CDBurnerXP-Pro error says it's "Under Development." I'll
download it from another site and try it again.

The only difference between your rig and mine is that I'm running
XP-Pro-SP2, not XP-Home Edition. Maybe that's the problem?
There is a user-forum for this product, maybe ask there...

Also, in another thread you said it was v3.5 which didn't work
....maybe you have two versions which don't work?

Come to think of it, last week I tried to burn an audio CD and it
wouldn't work (V3.0.116, Windows 2000). After about 6 to 8 tries, I
finally gave up. Later, I fiddled around and I found all the recorded
tracks on the CD. Maybe I didn't do it right, but some error always
popped up in the midst of recording mp3 files on to a CD.

Thanks for the info. I'll check for other versions - maybe my version is
too old.

3.5 wouldn't burn Audio CDs and 2.25 would lock up or freeze, turning the
CDs into coasters. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

My version gave an "Under development" error for Audio burning and didn't
try to burn the Audio CD. Therefore that version is useless to me. The
older version 2.2.5 would lock up part way through the burn, locking up my
entire computer even locking up Task manager and ruining the CD. Only a
hard reboot would free the PC. I deleted that version as well. I
reinstalled V 2.0. So far so good. Maybe I'll just stick with this older
version.

WinOnCD 6 is not exactly freeware but Roxio gives you WinOnCD 6 PE for
free. I've been using it long time and I have had no problems with it
at all. It is very good CD burning program. Please, give it a try.

You can download it here: (147 MB)

I used it with XP Home SP1 without any problems. I now have SP2
but haven't tried it yet. So I don't think the problem is XP Home.
Maybe there was a corrupt file in the download?

I'm using CDBurnerXP Pro3 without any problems, at least with SP1.
I haven't used it since SP2 but I don't anticipate any problems.
Although this computer has had prior problems with SP2. I just
re-installed it again yesterday and it seems fine so far.
