PlexTools question

I'd like to acquire a copy of PlexTools. I understand that my Plextor CD
burner (Plexwriter 12/10/32A) is the oldest one that it's compatible
with. I'll probably be happy with the older "plain" version (not
"PlexTools Professional" or "PlexTools Pro").

I understand that Plextor has been more liberal about providing this
program in Europe than they are in North America. Does anyone know of a
site where I may download it?

Thanks.

I have the same burner and did a google search a long tine ago. Try
searching for PlexTools103. You can install with up to 109 if I
remember correctly. Then you can update to PlexTools121, that's the
newest I think. I don't remember where I downloaded them from. I don't
have any way to upload them right now. Good Luck Post back if you
can't find them.

Payware.
Trialware

Plextools Pro upgrades are free to owners of Plextor burners.

When you first install the Plextools included with your burner, it creates
a registry entry which allows subsequent updates to be installed after
download.

The only payware is Pro XL which the OP did not ask for.

Yup.
I'm posting back.
All the links that I found for PlexTool103 (note spelling) were old and
dead.
I asked Plextor for assistance with this, and so far, it's been stony
silence.
What now?

I added then to my Limewire shared folder. Limewire has a free version
and is clean(no spyware). If this does not work I cab try to upload
them somehow or E-mail them.

The propper Plextools103.exe is 1,322KB
Plextools109.zip is 1,741
Plextools121.exe is 3,960

Limewire has a browse host feature, so once you have found me you can
look into my plextools folder for other versions if you need them. If
you get them from someone elso and the file size matches they are
probably ok but I scan everything to be safe. Final note, these work on
my 98SE box, not sure about XP
good luck

Hi, Joe.

I am not familiar with Limewire or this type of program. I don't know
what I must do to connect with it on my end. Do I have to install it? If
so, how do I locate a safe version of Limewire? I noticed that Computer
Associates has classified Limewire as spyware.

Perhaps I should also ask this question in its own thread.

I'm sorry to get back to you so late; I must have forgotten to look back.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, I wish that this were true. Plextor's software has always
been free to owners of _some_ but not all Plextor models. Plextor made a
cutoff point with the switch to Windows NTFS -- customers who had
previously used their bundled _Plextor Manager_ software in Windows 9x
were not allowed a free upgrade to Plextools. Similiarly, I was left out
in the cold with the imaging utility CD-Rescue, for which I'd paid
Plextor a surcharge; there was no upgrade and that was that. Granted
that in this case, an operating system image of a typical HD had grown
so dramatically that it's probably impractical to do an OS backup on
CDs; for example, Windows 98SE backed up on 1-3 CDRWs; Windows ME
required 9 disks. XP will take many more.
When you first install the Plextools included with your burner, it creates
a registry entry which allows subsequent updates to be installed after

Plextools wasn't included with my burner because my burner slightly
pre-dates NTFS. Plextools is NTFS-specific.

I'm the OP, and that's correct.

I paid a premium price for the Plextor drive, counting on Plextor's
reputation for professional-grade hardware and excellent proprietary
bundled software. There's also a reasonable expectation that when paying
a premium price, one will receive considerate assistance. No upgrade
path has been provided: not free, not $10 upgrade even: it's full-fare $80.

While their support has been above-average in terms of being able to get
them on the phone with calls answered in the USA, I feel abandoned and
badly treated with this Plextools policy. In fact, I need a couple of
burners to go with new computers; since the quality of one or two other
brands has risen, I'll probably abandon Plextor for these purchases
because of this.

After determining that the product is now safe, I downloaded and
installed LimeWire. This is my first experience with a file sharing
service; it's impressive.

In four sessions, I proceeded to download over 30 files identified as
some form of "Plextools" or "Plextool."

Almost all of them were infected with a worm -- the same one.
A few contained a trojan.
The rest were partial loads or mis-labeled music files.

I am grateful to Grisoft for providing AVG, which took care of the malware.

But not one of the files was usable.

Try putting this number in Direct Connect of Limewire
24.129.219.165:18067 I have not used this feature and it will only
work if I'm online. Or just E-Mail me (e-mail address removed) removing
the AT. Your E-mail should recieve attachments if they are zipped.
