CD-RW issues

I've got an XP Media Center PC that has issues with its CD-RW/DVD combo
drive. The drive will recognize/play normal CD's and DVD's just fine, but
will not recognize a burned CD or a brand new/blank CD-R or CD-RW. I removed
the drive from device manager and let Windows re-install it, and that did not
help. I checked the web for a possible firmware upgrade, for which there is
none. It worked perfectly a few days ago, and I do not recall any changes
made to the system over that period of time. I tried a System Restore, but
that did not work either. Is there something I'm missing?

Perhaps the drive itself has issues. You might try running a "cleaning"
disc - the laser could be dirty - test another CD/DVD drive in your PC
or test your drive in another PC.
