CD-RW drive not working

I originally installed the drive while running 98
the drive reads cds fine.
However, when i try to burn, say, an audio cd, it will
stop working after about the 3rd track. It wont burn more
than 20mb for data cds.
I tried installing xp.
It still reads cds fine. Now when I try to burn an audio
cd, It immediately closes the disc.
Help me please

If the drive wouldn't burn properly under Win98 and still won't burn
properly under WinXP, the drive is bad. Replace it with a new one.
