CD-RW 700Mb probs

I'm copying data from my old Windows 98 PC to transfer to
my new XP machine but I can only successfully copy to
650Mb discs. I was bought a 10 pack of Packard Bell 700Mb
CD-RW recently but I've tried 3 now and none have copied.
No probs with 650Mb though. Any ideas?

I answered a question almost identical to this only yesterday (though for
700 read 850) the limitation isn't Windows or your burner software, but the
burner itself. Not all burners are created equal and, as you have
discovered, older burners have a limit of 650 or 700 (I'm afraid that yours
must be pretty ancient to only record to 650Mb discs). So, what can you do
about it? Well, short of purchasing a newer burner, not much I'm afraid; you
could visit the manufacturer's website to see if there is a firmware upgrade
you could download to allow writing to larger capacity media but, if there
isn't, then it's time to take a trip to your favourite computer hardware
store (be it online or high street) and purchase a newer writer.
