CD Rom Won't work!

I have had my XP for more than a year and suddenly my cd-rom will not work.
Put cd in, do not hear it running, nothing happens, go to E drive, nothing.
Attempt to close it and the system locks up. MUST shut down manually. Turn
back on, (only way to remove cd), shut-down and re-boot just to use my
computer! What could be wrong?

Boot with a dos bootdisk that has cdrom drivers and then see if you can
access the cdrom. This will tell you if it;s a windows problem or a
hardware problem.
