CD Rom won't read my saved files from last operating system

I just installed XP Home edition onto my computer. It
seems to work great, but I can not access the informaiton
that I saved to CD-Rom prior to installing XP. I saved
all of my photographs onto a CD-Rom using windows expolere
in Windows 98 (my old operating system). I was able to
access them from the CD in 98. I also saved the photops
to another CD-rom using the Wingate Backup software on Win
98. When I try to access either disk I get the
message "Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk
might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is
not compatible with windows."

I loaded the XP software and other programs using the cd-
cd-rom so I know it works. Any suggestions how to salvage
this info? These are all the pics that my wife and I took
of the first 7 months of our baby's life, so they can't be
replaced and are and precious to us. PLEASE HELP!!!

W98 did not have any CD writing function, you used a
third-patty software package to write the CDs. Get the XP
updated version of the same program.

If they were cd- rewritables then you have to install the packet reading
ware in your XP box. Just a guess.
