Throwing away a working drive is not the answer. The
problem is in XP somewhere. The answer has yet to be
handled by MS or anyone else thus far. I have seen this
problem on 3 machines so far. I have moved these
dysfunctional drives to other machines and they work
fine. I suspect it is some software conflict or unknown
malware. I have crawled all over MS's site and tried a
number of things with no luck. A wipe and re-install will
work but is a lousy answer.
