CD ROM Problems

I all of sudden have started having very strange CD -R buring problems.
One of my burners writes data for about a 1/4 of an inch then has a about a
quarter of an inch gap with nothing written. It does it two or three times
on a disk.
That drive is a TDK CD-W reader writer/DVD+-reader writer.
I have another drive, a Lite-ON CD-R reader writer / DVD reader that fails
with an error every time I try to burn to it. Both ised to work fine a few
weeks ago. I have added another EDI hard disk to the other channel and my
brother said it could be a power problem.
Any ideas or has anyone experienced the writing unwritten gap problem?
Thanks

P.S. I have 1 SATA drive, two IDE drives on IDE channel 2, and two CD-ROM/DVD
burners on IDE channel 1. Just for your info.
