CD Rom Problems

Windows XP, I get an error message (Windows cannot read from this
disk)whenever we try to play a game, however music CD do not create any
problems.
Up until a week ago there were not any problems.
I have purchased a new CD Rom but the problem persists, much to the
annoyance of my grandchildren. Can somebody please help me.
 
When you installed the new CD-Rom did you install the drivers that
should have come with it on a CD, or from the manufacturers website?
After you booted the PC a message should have popped up telling you
that new hardware was found and if you want to install it.

Yes all conditions were met, the cdrom is on the "Approved list and the
drivers were installed"
