I have a Windows 2000 machine, when I open "My Computer" no CD drive is
available. If I open device manager, the drive is there and states that it
is working properly. Opening "Event Viewer" I find an error message that
states "The following boot-start or system start driver(s) failed to load:
cdudf

cdudf.sys present in c:\winnt\system32\drivers folder

I believe that is the DirectCD driver. Do you have DirectCD installed? If
so, you might try uninstalling it and seeing if the CD Rom drive becomes
available.
