Can't Access CD ROM Drive

S

SHEILAP

After downloading the software for a new SONY external DVD
RW drive, I can no longer access my CD ROM Drive. The
Drive letters are no longer visible on my computer.

The error message I get from the Event Viewer is:
" The following boot-start or system driver(s) failed to
load: "CDUDF"

The Device Manager shows Device Status:
"Your registry might be corrupted (Code 19)

I need help!

I have the same problem, except I don't know what
triggered it. I do not have the event error, however both
my cd-rom and my dvd-rom show the "Your registry might be
corrupted (Code 19)

Interesting that I came here looking for this and the most
recent posting is regarding it.

No magic bullet but try these:

Cannot Access CD-ROM and "Code 31" Error Message in Device Manager
After You Remove Adaptec Easy CD Creator from Your Computer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;270008

CD-ROM Access Is Missing and Messages Cite Error Code 31, Code 32,
Code 19, or Code 39 After You Remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314060

And pay attention to "Upper Filters" and don't think this is limited
to "Easy CD" only.

YMMV

The "CDUDF" error may mean the new software did not properly install
it's own UDF driver and not properly remove the system default UDF
driver from starting up or trying to.

Ensure full registry backup is made before modifications.

I have an internal Sony DVD-Rom drive. I had Windows 98
and after upgrading to Windows 2000 Professional, I got
the registry corruption code 19. When following the
suggested solution of removing the Upper and
LowerFilters, I found that they did not exist. We have
attempted to uninstall and reinstall the drivers that are
loaded on the machine. We followed several Knowledge base
articles that had anything to do with code 19 and none of
it worked. Any suggestions?

If you "upgraded" from 98 to W2K by installing over the older OS I
can't help. I neither believe in it nor have any experience with it.
"Clean" OS version to version installs are always better IMO.

With suitable backups first.
Physically disconnect all the CD drives, then remove all the drivers
thoroughly, then re-connect the drives. May get you somewhere.

In the middle of that from a cmd.exe prompt
set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
devmgmt.msc
may reveal more.
