CD rom not reading

I installed Nortons System Works 2004 and that is when
all the problems began. Symantec hasn't been of any help
to fix this problem.

After uninstalling NSW 2004, I cannot use the cdrw or any
lite-on software. (ie Nero 6.0) The drive is listed in
the device manager and it is listed as working properly,
but when I put a CD in the drive nothing comes up, I
cannot get a directory. A window opens if I double click
the drive or select "explore" but the window is empty.
When I try to burn a disk it asks me to insert a blank CD
even if a blank CD is already in.

In addition, when I insert a CD into any of the CD drives
(I have a CD-Rom, CDRW, and DVDRW) the auto menu that
used to appear giving me choices as to what to do with
the CD/DVD (ie. Open folder, copy disk, etc) no longer
opens. I have reinstalled ASPI drivers, CD-Rom drivers
etc and still nothing is working.

Well, I followed all advice from Marfer's notes at the
web address that was listed, and it didn't do anything.
In other words, I still have the same problem. If I
insert a CD into the drive and try to open it, now
instead of opening a blank window it asks me to insert a
CD into the drive. (But there is one already in it)!!!
Someone PLEASE HELP
