On loading a data CD into the drive (LG CD-ROM 52x) it spins up and then
accelerates at which point the system freezes until the disk is ejected when
all returns to normal. A Music CD however will display the shortcuts to the
tracks in explorer and only freezes the system when trying to access the
track. Have gone through system restore back to first restore point (before
updates) at which point the CD functions normally. Next upgrade was "Windows
Media Format 9 Series Runtime" after which it would appear the problem
starts. DVD burner in the machine works fine and recognises all disks. Any
suggestions?

Hello Steve,
How old is the drive? Have you tried a cleaner for CD players in it?
Could be you need to replace the drive. Clean it first, then go to your
PC makers web site and see if they have an update for your hardware. That
would be the best place to seek help any way. They would know if that issue
is common for your machine. Best of luck to you.

Ron,
Brand new - even replaced the one that had been in the machine for 5 days
'cos though it was a drive failure. Seems to be a software system conflict,
probably going to get the dealer to reformat and start again.
