cd-rom,I/O device error

ok i have a win2k pro system (dell) that will not seem to
do anything with the cd-rom , however it is listed in the
device manager and in the my computer window,

the drive works excellent using an ms-dos boot floppy

but once windows begins loading the system wont evan blink
the light nor answer eject requests from software or
hardware(the button doesnt work)

if i attempt to access the drive via my computer i get an
I/O device error stating D;\ not accessible

help?
