cd-rom giving Rave Error and General Protection Fault

I am tring to run a cd- rom that is several years old...so therefore no tech
support from the maker...When I run the game (it doesn't install and isn't
supposed to) it comes up alright but each time it tries to make a sound it
pops up with a box saying "Rave Error waveOutOpen - WAVERR_BADFORMAT". If it
is played for a while or you close the program it pops up with "An error has
ocurred in your application. If you choose...." then another box comes up
with "AB has caused a General Protection Fault in module ABRAVE.DLL at
000#:### (insert any numbers you want there) If you try to start the program
again then the last message pops up again (with new #s) unless you restart
the computer. I searched for the file ABRAVE.DLL and it is one on the CD-rom

If anyone needs any more info I will try to get it for you ....please help
and thanks

It is called Alphabet Blocks ....produced by Sierra...the copyright lists
Bright Star Technologies, Inc. as well. I believe it was produced in 1993
but I am not 100% sure....it has Talking Tutors that teach kids the alphabet
and the letter sounds

Ah the old sierra software cause issues again, I have had similar problems
with some of the older sierra games like shivers 1 & 2 and phantasmagoria.
The issue for me was down to direct x being too new for the software and the
game calls for specific drivers that just dont exist anymore. first thing I
can suggest that you try is the compatibility wizard and run the game in Win
95 mode, You can search the knowledge base for using the compatibility
wizard. Or as an alternate solution most of the old sierra based games have
too installations on the cd's one for windows and one for DOS, Firstly please
ensure that it is the windows version that you are trying to install if it is
then try getting a dos emulator, like DOSbox and running the DOS version of
the game.
