CD ROM/DVD/CD Writer

I recently purchased a DVD writer, and installed it.
However, when I go to the device manager it still shows
the old CD-ROM drive that I replaced with the DVD
writer. I try to disable and uninstall the CD-ROM, but
on the next boot up the device reappears. This seems to
have caused some conflicts because boot up is extremely
slow. How do I resolve the problem??
