CD-ROM Drive Disappears

My CD-ROM Drive will work just fine, but after a while it
disappears, the drive no longer shows up in "my computer".
I reboot the computer and everything is fine again. It's
like it's being disabled to save resources, but I can't
find a setting for that. Any thoughts?

Brian - I have the same problem - I play music on one of my drives
and then sometimes the music stops. Both cd drives then completel
disappear from "My Computer". A reboot cures it. Could be an ide bu
problem where the drives are literally not being seen by th
motherboard, or perhaps one of the drives is defective and causing a
ide bus problem.

I may try moving the hard drives onto that ide bus and the cd drives t
the other and seeing if the problem moves or stays with the drives.

I appear to have found the problem with my machine - it was a defective
cd rom drive which worked some of the time and then failed, causing the
other device hanging off the ide cable to also disappear.
