CD-ROM DOESN'T WORK

Ok, I have done possibly everything to try and solve my problem. My CD-ROM is
detected by CMOS and you can see it in my computer... The problem is it WILL
NOT read any cds at all. I have tried to see if it's a mobo related problem
and it isn't, because it will boot-up the windows xp installation thingy. I
have also tried another cd-rom drive and it doesn't work. I have tried
uninstalling/reinstalling my cd-drivers and I have come to a conclusion that
it's a driver issue... and I plan on updating my firmware, but im not sure
how to with xp cause i can't boot-up with dos

I would not be too certain that this is a driver problem. You may have a
cable problem or a motherboard problem. Either of these could easily
explain your inability to read the CDs.
As for the firmware, you do not necessarily need dos. The motherboard or
bios manufacturer should be able to tell you how.

you're talking about firmware for cd drive, right?
don't need dos. XP doesn't have dos anyway. command prompt interface "like"
dos.
