cd rom dispaying no disc in drive.

Hi everyone,
Although I can read files that are on the cd, cannot record any files onto
the cd. The cd-rom has had the upper/lower filters removed. The cd is
enabled for recording. Have been told that if the memory of the "c" disc
drive is high, it will not work. Running a Windows home edition xp sp1. I
have no third party burners installed. I have tried the various "fixes.

Swap the drive out for a known-working one. If the problems go away,
discard the original drive. CD-RW drives are quite inexpensive these
days; I just bought some for under $15USD at geeks.com.
