I have two CD drives on my computer and have never experienced a problem
until recently. Neither show up in My Computer but are visible on the
Device Manager listing with exclamations next to each. However, under the
properties, each displays "Code 41" (no information on this in the MS
Knowledge Base) and displays the message "cannot find the hardware device".

Any help would be appreciated.

A file, related probably to CD burning, has been deleted, but a
reference left in the registry, To tidy up, get a registry patch file,
cdgone.reg, from www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip, extract it, r-click
on it and merge it into the registry

You will then need to reinstall any burning software that you use.
