CD-R/RW and DVD-ROM code 41??

I have a SAMSUNG CD-R/RW SW-240B and TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-M1612

My problem concerns code 41 I receive in the Device Manager.
The error states: Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this
hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

Here is the story, one night they BOTH were working fine. The next morning
my mother got up early and wanted to listen to some Tchaikovsky music on CD.
Well, it didn't work. I looked at the problem closer by opening MY COMPUTER.
None of the CD drives were there. I uninstalled both CD-ROMS and they
installed back fine. But they still are not working.

My question is why have both my CD-ROMS crapped out on me at the same time?
Could have both have had their eyes broken at the same time? Any help would
be super! Its better than going into the computer repair in town (again, for
the millionth time)

Thank you much,
Bret

Goto http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.php#problems
See the second "problem" (read the caveats)
Run the provided registry patch

That should fix your problem (basically, a filter driver is missing or
non-operational, the registry patch will delete the filter drivers
references for your cdrom(s))

Basically, the reg file from above carries out the steps displayed at this
website

CD-ROM Drive or DVD-ROM Drive Missing After You Install Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;320553

CD-ROM Access Is Missing and Messages Cite Error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19,
or Code 39 After You Remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314060

(It'll fix code 41 errors too as per the contents of the last kb article)

Thank you very much sir! The registry patch fixed it right up. I loaded them
and restarted and both my CD-ROMs came back. :) Thank you again.
