CD-R/RW and CD-ROM drive gone from ME to XP Pro

I'm experiencing a problem which caused both my Yamaha CD-
R/RW and CD-rom drive to disappear. I have just got XP
pro and I have updated from my ME to it. Has anyone any
answers/remedies for it?

Hi, Yan.

Have you made sure you are using WinXP drivers for your CD devices?
Win9x/ME drivers almost certainly will not work with WinXP because it
handles hardware so differently from the MS-DOS-based versions of Windows.

Sometimes the Upgrade process successfully migrates the drivers, but
sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes you can just unplug the drives, reboot
WinXP once (or more) to let it forget that it ever had CD drives connected,
then plug them in and reboot once more to let WinXP detect them and install
drivers. And sometimes you can simply use Device Manager to update the
drivers.

Visit Yamaha's website and get their WinXP drivers for your model drives.
They may also have some tips for getting their drives to work properly with
WinXP.
