I had reformatted my homebuilt not too long ago. Now seems that if I want to
access a CD (data) that was burned on my laptop, it refuses to read it. I
have two drives ( one cd-dvd and one cdr-w) and neither will read. The error
I am getting is "Drive:# not accessable, incorrect function"
Both machine have the same burning utility (Easy CD creator) and the disked
were closed out upon burning.
Any ideas on what could be the problem with the home built?

TIA

Cindy

Hi C, go into device manager and see what`s with your CD device, if all is
OK there it sounds like your software has fallen over. best wishes..J

Thanks Jon.
Seems everything is ok with the device manager and the cd drives.
I guess I will try to re-install the software.

I am on the third reload of my OS (Win XP Home, SP2) in the
last three weeks for exactly the same problem.

Is it possible that someone has created a virus that resides
in the deepest part of the hard drive's info structure,
immune from popular anti-virus software? It keeps popping
back up in less than a week after a fresh install. This is
getting frustrating.

None of my software that was bought to detect such vile
creatures are telling me anything.

Download Nero Info Tool,
http://www.cdspeed2000.com/files/NeroInfoTool_301.zip

It's very small and can even be run from within it's .zip file.Look in
it's Configuration Tab and it's ASPI tab and report back what it
says. All your drives should be using DMA and ASPI should be installed.

oh yes, I had a similar experience with TSRboot virus in MBR moving
itself thru Bios rutines around & lost whole afternoon (few months
ago) to get rid of it. Got if from old HD wanting to scan it with AV
connected to my PC as a slave; it screwed my sistem slowly in few days
till PC could not boot anymore. Formatting didnt kill it, wiping first
128 sectors with "Zap" from DOS FD did it. Fortunatelly I have another
backup drive with OS backup & regular backups made & kept in another
room :-)

The AV only revealed it as a possible virus in deep heuristic scan
only.

Change to windows ASPI.
In the Device Manager check your IDE settings and change to DMA for
any that are not enabled as per above.
What O/S is this?
