CD-R / DVD-R problems - please help...

Hi,

I'm running Win2K and have both a Pioneer A06 DVD burner and a Lite-On 52x
CD burner that are giving me trouble. The Lite-On is probably about 9
months old but the Pioneer was installed less than a week ago and that's
when the problems started. Neither drive will read a data disc that I have
burned, regardless of which burner, even my burner at work. I keep getting
the "Please insert a disk into drive" error when I select a disc drive to
explore. However, both drives will read commercially pressed discs, and one
odd thing is that if I run Nero Express to add to a previously unfinished
project, I can see the files previously burned onto the disc in the 'disc
content' window.

I'm wondering if it's possible that by coincidence the Lite-On went bad AND
I received a bad DVD burner at the exact same time, or could there be some
possible software-related explaination for this?

I'll be happy to provide more clues if it'd help anyone to help me.

Thanks so much,
Nate

Are you by any chance using more than one CD/DVD burning program? Nero will
not work with other burning software installed.

Try changing slave/master configuration. I had a similar problem once after
changing to a new case and motherboard. That was with a CDRW and a DVD
drive.

Thanks for the suggestion. Your answer helped me to figure it out - it
turns out that the DVD software that came bundled had this program that
detects when a blank DVD is inserted then autostarts the burning program. I
uninstalled that and it fixed the problem.

Thanks again,
Nate

Thanks for the help. It turns out that it was something else (see above),
but this is a good idea for future diagnostics.

Take care,
Nate
