Can't burn cd-r...

Henrik Andersen

I use a Lite-On DVD/CD-R drive. The drive will not see a cd-r in the drive.
The computer says Insert an empty cd-r, but there is a empty cd-r in the
drive. I have no problems reading and burning dvd-r's. I use Nero for
burning cd-r's. I have used the same media for a very long time, so it can
not be a compability problem. I have also tried 2 others brands of cd-r's.
They dont work either. Is this a software problem?

Your comment about "for a very long time" is quite telling. Chances are
that the Lite-On device has crashed. Invest money in a good burner.
Lite-On is the bottom of the barrel.

The other option would be to try to clean the laser stylus in the device.
That may fix it.

Thank you for your reply. But the problem is, that I can burn dvd's without
problems. If LiteOn is the bottom of the barrel, what is the top?

Plextor or Sony.

Thank you for your reply. It was clearly a hardware problem. I have just
installed another cd-r drive and now everything is perfect, without any
changes in software.

LOL, You lost much credibility when you said that Sony's a top burner?... Not flaming you, but the original poster said that he was able to write to blank CDR on the system - thus the hardware isn't defective.

Perhaps the drivers for XP might be the problem, but I've seen this happen to multiple machines - XP just won't read Blank CDR, therefore refuse to write to them.

I don't think the developers of EggheadCafe have a clue about Identity
values in their own stolen database material, never mind about their
user's cluelessness in using such a 'resource'.
