cd/dvdrw drive has stopped wrking

my cd/dvdrw drive on my laptop has just suddenly stopped wrking after
installing some software. the windows xp device manager on my laptop says
"Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot
find the hardware device. (Code 41)". i havnt disconnected it at all and i
dont know how this happened or how to fix it. if anyone knows how to or has
an idea i would ben greatful.

not really familiar with the Itunes install ..if I'm not mistaken , it does
hook into windows with some burning functionality.

if you uninstall (itunes)does the burner work properly ?
