I purchased this new PC 18 months ago, and until recently
have had no problems.
I have an E-Machines 190/390
Intel ®
Celeron ® CPU 2.20GHz
2.19GHz
256MB of RAM
With Windows XP home edition
Samsung CDRW/DVD SM-348B
It would appear that the CD/DVD drive no longer works.
Although I have been told by several people, that it
doesn't sound like a hardware problem. More like a Windows
problem.
When I put in a new CD, and click on the drive, a window
comes up to say
- Drive is not accessible - incorrect function.
When I first start up my PC and insert a CD that has text
data on it, I am able to view the files and documents.
However, after I eject that CD and insert another disc,
the drive still sees the original CD.
On the other hand, when I first start up my PC and insert
a music CD, media player appears and the CD plays.
However, after I eject the music CD and insert a CD with
text data on it, it reads the text data.
Then when I remove that CD and insert another music CD,
the drive is still seeing the Text CD.
I have tried closing windows explorer and re-opening, but
it makes no diference. I have to shut everything down and
re-start to clear the memory of the drive.
I have checked through control panel, system, hardware,
CD/DVD drive and I am told that the device is working
correctly. I have uninstalled and re-installed the
drivers, but it has made no difference.
I really do hope someone can help me.
