CD/DVD DRIVE NOT RECOGNIZED

I'm begining to become frustrated with my computer. Basically my computer
was working fine, until I tried to un-install roxio easy cd creator. After
the un-install none of my cd-rom drives worked (I have a cdrw and a dvdr
drive installed). My jumper cables are fine becuase I have been using this
same setup without any problems for a really long time until now. This this
is the first time that I had to un-install roxio easy cd creator. I tried in
windows to re-install just the drivers and it didn't work, the system told me
that there aren't any suitable drivers for the drive. When I tried to
install the drivers manually, there wasn't a list of drivers available. I
think that the folder or file that holds the driver information is corrupt or
missing. unfortunately my trouble didn't stop here. I thought that
re-installing a fresh copy of windows would be sufficient but when windows
setup tries to access windows setup from the cd it doesn't work at all,
meaning that my cd-drive isn't working properly at all. I know that the bios
does infact recognize both my cd-rw and my dvd-r drive because it lets me
boot the windows cd but once it goes to the main windows installation screen
(not the blue screen with limited graphics [that looks somewhat similar to
the bios setup screen] but the actuall screen that tells you all the benefits
of having windows installed), it asks for a suitable cd-rom drive and windows
can't locate it. I can reformat the drive but it's imperative that I keep
the files from my computer. I have highly important client files and
information that I can't lose at all! Please help if someone has a solution
for this uncommon problem without having to reformat. Thanks for your time...

Whatever you do, there is no need to reinstall Windows!!!!!

In your start menu / control panels you will find an option for windows
recovery... In this application you will get the option to roll back windows
to a previous date when it worked properly... i.e. before you un-installed
roxio!!!!

If this doesn't work the only thing i can suggest is getting your hands on
an extrnal hard drive to back up all your client files and format the PC
then reload your client files from the external disk !!
