Here's the deal: I updated my laptop with a Western Digital 120GB SATA
Drive (WDC WD1200BEVS) to SP3 yesterday. After the install, I get a
black startup screen saying something like "Drive not available, try
to Repair with Windows Setup CD".

I put in the Windows setup CD and it says "No Drive Available".

I tested the drive with Western Digital Drive Diagnostics and the
drive IS recognized. I ran all tests and they return with no
errors.

Acronis was able to recognize it and I removed the valuable
information. SpinRite was able to recognize it and complete all
tests.

I would prefer to not reformat the drive as I have a lot of software
on board.

Have you contacted the laptop manufacturer?
Have you checked for a BIOS update that might address the issue?

I did a lengthy 13-hour test overnight with SpinRite. I then did an
F6 during startup of the XP Setup Disc and it finally recognized the
drive.

Now that I have it working, I am a bit afraid that it may fail to boot
when I restart. I am going to look on the Manufacturer's site for a
BIOS update now. It is a Fujitsu/Siemens...

Finally got it to start up. Was working all day on the computer with
little problem. However IE7 crashed every time on open. Scanned with
Norton and found several viruses. Manually removed 2 of them and now I
get the Blue Screen of Death. Tried booting in Safe Mode and same
thing...
