CD/DVD Drive Not Detected

Hi People

I am running XP Pro on a P3 1Ghz machine and everything works good except
for the combo CD/DVD drive.
After boot up , I notice that my CD/DVD drive is not detected and I have to
go into My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager and rescan
my computer to get the CD/DVD drive to show up and be detected.
After that , the drive works good and there is no problem with it at all.

Does anybody know how to get the CD/DVD drive detected on boot up ?

I have installed extra HDDs in my machine and the setup is as follows
Primary IDE
Master 40 Gb Seagate
Slave 40 Gb Seagate

Secondary IDE
Master Lite-on SOHC 5236V combo CD/DVD ( set as master )
Slave 40 Gb Seagate ( set as slave )

I have tried to update the drivers and went through the troubleshooting
procedure , but I can't seem to get the CD/DVD drive detected in XP after
boot up.
The drive is detected by the BIOS during boot up , but not in XP

Previously I had a CD burner installed and set as master on the Secondary
IDE channel and that was detected after boot up in both the BIOS and XP.

Has anybody got any ideas of what could be wrong ?

Thanks.

Check both Controllers for the M/S taps and ensure that the one
serving your optical drive is not set to "None". Device Manager
IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. Open the Primary & Secondary
Controllers detail box and click the Advanced (TAB). You should
see a box "Device Type" that indicates what is connected.
*Some combinations of devices on the same controller channel
will exhibit this type of behavior. You can test this by removing
the Seagate drive and see if the Optical is properly detected by
XP.

Thanks for the reply.
When I checked out the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers , straight after boot up
when the CD/DVD drive was not detected is showed :

Device 0 - Device Type = Auto Detect
Device 1 - Device Type = Auto Detect - greyed out

After a rescan of System

Device 0 - Device Type = Auto Detect greyed out
Device 1 - Device Type = Auto Detect - greyed out

It looks like I maybe need to check the jumper settings on the CD/DVD drive.
