Cd / DVd Drive Multizone

I have a Samsung CD / DVD drive which is set to Zone 4 for DVD reading. I
can see in the device properties I can change this to any zone I wish up to
5 times after this it becomes locked and it says I would have to remove the
drive and send it to Samsung to be unlocked. Is there any way I can make
this Multizone with out the stress with Samsung? I am running Xp Pro...

Search on Google for "DVD region hack" !
Some players are software encoded (which often can be "broken"),
others need a small program which resets the options to "5 changes".
Depends on make and model.

Just for the record, I don't normally subscribe to the "hacking and
cracking" school of thought but I strongly object to a hardware
manufacturer restricting the playing of legally purchased DVDs.

Will this reset the amount of times I have changed the DVD zone on the DVD
player? I would hate to try it a few times and end up having to buy a whole
new one.....

Realistically, how often are you likely to need to change the region ?

The hack I have for my old T21 Thinkpad, I forget what make of DVD it
is, resets the number of choices to "5" from whatever is showing prior
to running the program. I think I've only used it twice in 3 years.

You'll need to make sure that any program you use is suitable for the
Make and Model of your DVD player or risk locking everything up !!

Region killer is only useful if the drive can be hacked to RPC1
(unprotected), to prevent software region control from taking over.

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces - See Samsung there,
some drives are hackable to RPC1, some are not.

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd43.cfm
Or this.. region-free on an RPC2 drive - not as easy as the $-ware,
and some mixed results.

You pays your money (or NOT), and takes your choice - if it works for
you, it saves the risky firmware updates.
