Starting yesterday or so, I am unable to read or write
CD's. The drive doesn't seem to recognize that there is
a disk in it. Can anyone help?

About the same time, my system response time has become
EXTREMELY slow (about 1 minute after mouse click before
the screen changes). I'm wondering if I have some type
of virus or something.

Well one way to find out if you have a virus is to run a
virus scan. If you have easy cd creator for a cdrw drive,
maybe the driver is corrupted. If so, un-install easy cd
creator and re-install easy cd creator. Another thing to
do is run error check on your hard drive. Need help with
that just search for "error checking" in your help and
support
