CD Drive Problem

D

David Marsh

I'm running XP Pro with SP2 on a Packard Bell Pentium IV 2.0GHz, 512MB,
60GB, DVD/CDRW etc.

It's an IMedia series computer. I have a problem with the CD Drive. Every
now and then, when I put a CD in the drive (normally original CD's, as
opposed to CDR's) the machine is not recognising it. If I open Explorer,
it's as if there is no CD in the drive. Some applications are saying that
the drive is empty. I have tried re-installing the drivers, no luck. (where
would be the best place to update the driver?) Any help would be
appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I have Nero version 6 installed.

This is one symptom of a dirty lens or a failing drive. A dirty lens
can be cleaned by *very gently* wiping with a cotton tip and isopropyl
alcohol. (vodka will also work) A failing drive, well....
