Hello group,

I posted this message 2 days ago in the windowsxp general group and have
recieved no replies. Actually, I just need someone to open their registry
editor and find a couple of values for me. Can someone here please help?

I have a compaq presario 5000 with win xp home sp2.
I had to reformat and reinstall a couple of months ago, that was when I
added sp2. Before the reinstall I burned about 50 cd's and all was well.
Now when I try to burn I keep getting the message to put a cdr in the
drive.(I have tried different cd's to no avail) I hooked up an external cd
burner and I get the same message. They both continue to read.
My research points to what should be a registry entry in HKLM ,system,
current control set, class, (4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318), and
then there should be an
upper and lower filter. I have neither of these and I can't seem to find
where I can get these values from. Can someone please point me in the right
direction. Thank you

I looked and don't have the upper and lower filters either and mine works
fine. Are you using the XP built in burning software? In my computer right
click on the drive and on properties and on recording tab. see if the box is
checked to enable recording.

Also Check whether your IMAPI CD-burn COM service has been disabled or has
stopped running. (look it up via Control Panel/Administrative
Tools/Services).

Thank you for your quick reply, Bud.

Yes, I'm using the built in burning software. Yes, it's been marked for
burning and yes the IMAPI CD-burn COM service is running.

The message that I get when I try to burn is that I need to put a cdr into
the drive. Everything says that the drive is fine. I've tried multiple
discs, they don't work. I hooked up an external cd burner and I get the
same message when I try to burn. The external burner works fine on my other
computers. As mentioned previosly they all read. They just don't seem to
recognize a blank cd.

Thank you,
