cd burner troubles

I'm on my second CD burner. The first was a BTC 56x that only worked
for about a year. My second is an ATPI 24x. The probelm I've had with
both feels similar, but it's been too long since i had the first one
to know for sure.

Either way here's the problem: I'll start to burn an audio cd, the
software will get 2-5% into the total session and then the session
will close without any errors. All the tracks show up on the disk,
but only about 2 minutes of audio exsist on the first track.

I used Nero with the first burner. I'm running Ubuntu and have used
serpintine and K3b since I installed the ATPI. the burner is set up
with a FIC au13, 512mg memory. 1.8 gig AMD processor.

Any ideas on what could be the problem?

You used 2 different CD burners, 2 different softwares, 2 different OS and
got the same problem with the same audio files and CD-R media ?

Is there something unusual about the tracks you're trying to burn?
Can you play the ready to burn audio tracks more than 2 minutes?
Are the tracks you're burning in ,wav format or .au ?
Converting vbr mp3s to audio truncates audio tracks but not to 2 minute
tracks. Are you burning 128k abr, CD quality?

I would:
Check your ASPI layer install (adaptec site)
Check the power supply

Nero has a bad habit of running at any speed it wants.
You really need to do a test speed to verify the correct
speed for the media you are using. Generally, I saw
Nero give an error message that the media was bad,
or not compatible ... but that would correct itself once
I set Nero to the correct speed for the media. I never
had that problem with Easy CD because it will do a
media test, and then drop to the correct speed.

Make sure you have UDMA enabled, are using a 80 wire cable, have flashed
the latest firmware, put the burner on a different channel than the hard
drive, and try different media. Or better still get yourself a Liteon
if you are on a budget or a Plextor if you got the bucks to burn. I'm
not trying to be a smart ass but BTC is shit and ATPI sounds like a
generic cheapo.
